About me:
I am currently working a senior lecturer in the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR), at University of Malaya (UM). After completed my Bachelor in Biotechnology at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and a PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, I was employed by UM as a postdoctoral research fellow for three years before took up the role of Senior Lecturer.
As the postdoctoral research fellow, I was involved in several research projects on metabolic engineering, aiming to enhance the production of some useful secondary metabolites as well as plant tissue culture and molecular biology to understand the regulatory mechanism of transcription factors in abiotic-stressed crops.
In my later role as Senior Lecturer, I am involved in teaching on the Bachelor and Master programmes and supervising postgraduate students. I have a strong interest in developing pedagogies for teaching and critical writing to postgraduate students. Currently, I am doing research on a flipped learning model in my classroom. I also worked as a coordinator for CEBAR curriculum development and in charge of Biochemistry Laboratory and Plant Biotechnology Research Laboratory.
I am a current council member of the Malaysian Society for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB) and Honorary Secretary for the Malaysian Agricultural Proteomics Society (MAPS). This year, I received a fellowship from the Royal Society-Newton Advanced Fellowship, which allowed me to work on my project in the UK laboratory and Travel Award from the United States Department of State Biosecurity Engagement Program to attend the Asia Pacific Biosafety Association Conference and workshops.
